Description

Overview

The Type 1000's titanium boron alloy body is manufactured by Megacity Aerospace Systems (MAS), its avionics systems were manufactured by MAS and General Data Technologies, its low radar profile coating is manufactured by CCA (Chemicals for Commercial Applications) a jointly owned SCAPA and General Data Technologies subdivision. Its closed cycle Nuclear Thermal Ram jets are produced by SCAPA and its conventional Turbofans are produced by MAS. The Type 1000 is the largest aircraft presently in ZMAF service.

Mission

ZMAF Air Combat Command's Type 1000 is a Global-range strategic bomber that can perform a variety of missions. The bomber is capable of flying at supersonic speeds at altitudes up to 68,000 ft. It can carry nuclear or precision guided conventional ordnance and has the capability to navigate the world precisely.

Development

Proposed under the 4th ZMAF enlargement program the Type 1000 bomber is seen as the real direct predecessor of the Europa Shuttlecraft paving the way for the Europa's Aviatrix 220 engine design. Proposed to have three primary roles the requirements for the Type 1000 were seen by the major industrial conglomerates as to great for any one group to complete the contract. The Type 1000 was therefore built by a consortium of the Sorrenson, Caperlli, Amiere,Prestwick and Anderson Heavy Industries Combine, Samson Incorporated and Megacity Aerospace Systems.

The requirements for the type 1000 were threefold, to be capable of circling the globe without landing or requiring mid air refuel, to carry a payload in excess of 200,000 lbs and to be equipped with parasite aircraft mounts to support the rapid deployment of combat aircraft or drones in rapidly developing trouble spots with such parasite mounts be capable of mounting high performance escorts up to the at that time under development two seater Type 439 fighter.

Details

The Type 1000 is propelled by four MAS T0440 turbofans producing 310 kN thrust each and two SCAPA Mk.III Damocles closed cycle Nuclear thermal ram jets which each produce 1400 kilo Newton’s of thrust. Within the Damocles the gaseous nuclear fuel is contained in a super-high-temperature quartz container, over which the air flows. It is a closed cycle engine limited by the critical temperature of quartz instead of the fuel stack. Although less efficient than an open-cycle design, the closed-cycle design delivers a rather respectable specific impulse and does not emit a radioactive "hot" exhaust which would be highly detrimental to the environment. The Ram jet is optimised to operate at Mach 2.1 to Mach 3.2. The primary radiation shielding in the lower rear section of the reactor pod features a section of armoured louvers which allow a portion of the reactors output to be used in a very low altitude (120 metres) "sterilising" sweep. The Damocles engines have become known colloquially by the pilots as the “worlds largest butchers lamps”.

The Type 1000 program started in the early 1970s and has been an integral part of ZMAF’s manned operations since the initial flight on may 5th 1989. The initial first year of operation were designated to the completion of various test flight programs under the aegis of the ZMAF ’s 5th generation Aerial Dominance Program.

Each Type 1000 was originally designed for a projected life span of 20 years of operation.

The Type 1000's crew escape system's initial large level of development are due primarily to fears of catastrophic Mk.III Damocles malfunction or damage to the radiation shielding. The entire forward "control" section which can jettison the rear "operations" section becoming a self contained escape glider that is capable of controlled gliding, the glider section can aslo deploy a parachute for landing. It is equipped with one solid booster rocket to allow it to distance itself from the main body of the aircraft.

Type 1000 Jetison Points

The Type 1000’s low signature coating lowers its radar profile by 87 percent. Due to it massive thermal output this is mostly done to stop terminal radar acquisition and easy OTH targeting.

The last Type 1000 series number 493 was formally decommissioned 23 years after the end of Resource war 2 after over sixty two years of service. At their height in the midst of Resource War 1 a fleet of over 240 type 1000’s were in use in 18 squadrons.

Internally the Type 1000 remains largely similar to the original design, with the exception that the avionics continue to be improved and the addition of an emergency alternative liquid atmosphere modification in series number 210. The original systems were "hardened" GDT computers connected to an "all glass" cockpit with analogue backup. GDT upgrades have included a full distribution of the system and addition of high capacity electromechanical bare bones combat control systems back ups.

The present Type 1000 features high powered LADAR and LIDAR systems, a selection of radar systems and an integrated Electronic Support Measures (ESM) array.

Features

In a conventional conflict, the Type 1000 can perform strategic attack, air interdiction, offensive counter-air and maritime operations.

All type 1000’s are equipped with an electro-optical viewing system that uses platinum silicide forward-looking infrared and high resolution low-light-level television augmented by real time LIDAR forward looking terrain scanning sensors to assist in targeting, battle assessment, and flight safety, thus further improving its combat ability and low-level flight capability.

The use of nuclear drive gives the type 1000 a range limited only by crew endurance, or in the extreme, required maintenance. It has an un refueled in practice combat range in excess of 15,500 miles. 410 Aeroliner and 120 Stratoliner air-refueling tankers are currently in service to provide fuel for the take off land landing jets if required. The Type 1000 is refueled by means of a small fuel link mounted in the nose cone.

It is highly effective when used for naval control and can assist the ZMN in anti-ship and mine-laying operations.

The Type 1000 series numbers 0 to 130 carried a tail-mounted armament of eight rear facing air defense missile tubes mounted in the tail. The 131 in 2018 replaced the octuplet of missile tubes with a single GDT 1.3 megawatt quantum cascade air to air defense laser. An optic conduit was installed the length of the aircraft to allow the installation of a forward emitter based in the nose cone. The aerial refueling mount was moved to a hump above the cockpit.

A total of 493 Type 1000’s were produced over 40 years.

yeah not bad but is it really needed due to missile and icbms
